New “Hardhaus” with Battery Hybrid Propulsion

The ship owner Hardhaus AS has ordered an environmentally friendly new “Hardhaus” with a battery solution, electrical deck machinery and heat recovery system.

The shipowner and Salt Ship Design AS have over the past year worked closely together to develop an optimized and energy efficient vessel, and it is now confirmed that the 75 m Purse Seiner / Trawler will be built at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey.

The shipowner has put special emphasis on optimizing the hull shape and the main dimensions which have been fine-tuned throughout the development phase.  The new “Hardhaus” is designed around a focus on energy saving, freeboard, stability, draught and ship motions. The model test program is still in the initial phase, and the design development will continue for quite some time.

The vessel will be equipped with electrical deck machinery. To benefit from the reactive power generated by the winches, the ship is equipped with a comprehensive battery solution.

In addition, the batteries will be used for peak shaving to achieve the best possible operating conditions for the diesel engine, thus reducing fuel consumption, emissions and wear and tear. The vessel can hence operate both in conventional diesel mechanic and diesel / battery electric mode.

For Salt Ship Design, it has been very inspiring and interesting to work with such a dedicated and experienced ship owner. We are proud to be selected as the designer of the new “Hardhaus”.

Enova has supported the project and hence made it possible for the shipowner to invest in the energy efficient battery solution and electric winches.
